Facebook has introduced a new Timeline feature to the social network, which will help users display all their important milestones gathered over a period of time.
The newly announced feature for Facebook, ‘Timeline’ has three main components that comprise of – firstly user’s stories, secondly applications and third a new way to express a person’s identity.
Pictures and videos are featured on the timeline more prominently making profiles more visually focused and users can sort through information by date, type of media and location.
The social network has also introduced a music service on the website. Now users will be able to listen to music, watch videos and use application without leaving the page they are on. Users can also listen to what their friends are listening via a ‘Share Music’ feature.
To provide music, Facebook has tied up with services such as Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio, Spotify while video contents will be provided by services such as Netflix and Hulu.
Facebook is also aiming at changing the way News is delivered to the users by getting in to partnerships with news giants such as Washington Post and alike.
This is not new for Facebook as a similar model has already been adopted for applications and has turned out to be popular but will the same model also work for other media, still remains to be seen. The beta version of the Timeline feature will be available to all users in coming times including the users in India and after that only things will be a little clearer as what the future of this service will be.
