The Wikitude Augmented Reality (AR) browser will be included as a preinstalled application in the upcoming BlackBerry Bold touch and type devices.
An Augmented Reality Browser scans your surrounding for Geo-referenced content using the device’s camera and sensors to display related information about the object on the screen, right where the real object is located.
The new league of touch and type Bold smartphones feature the latest BlackBerry 7 operating system that has integrated functionality for aiding Augmented Reality.
RIM had also announced APIs (Application Programming Interface) for the newer 99xx Bold devices, so that application developers can make use of the Augmented reality in their applications as well.
“The Wikitude team is very excited to see its AR browser as part of BlackBerry’s new device proposition,” said Martin Herdina, Wikitude’s chief executive officer.
“BlackBerry’s Super Apps concept is the perfect environment for Wikitude to show its full potential as it seamlessly integrates with other applications on the device,” Herdina added.
The Wikitude browser is also expected to be included in all the upcoming BlackBerry devices as well.
