Yesterday, Asus announced the Zenfone 6 with a Flip Camera and Snapdragon 855 processor. But the Taiwanese company hasn’t let go off supporting its older phones as the Zenfone 4 Max now receives the latest Android 9 Pie through a beta update.
This is the Zenfone 4 Max’s second major update in six months after the phone received an update to Android 8.1 Oreo in October 2018. Asus has also disclosed that the UI on the Zenfone 4 Max with the latest beta update will be based on AOSP which means the phone will run clean Android instead of the company’s ZenUI.
The Android Pie beta update for the Zenfone 4 Max will shift the build number of the software to 16.0200.1903.25 and is designed to be installed on the model number ZC554KL of the ZenFone 4 Max.
Asus notes that Android Pie can be installed through a system image which will remove all personal data from the device, which means a backup of the data is necessary. The company also noted that the Android 9 (Pie) AOSP Beta version will not be supported with routine updates.
To recall, the Asus Zenfone 4 Max sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a screen Resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device came in two variants – one with Snapdragon 425 and another with Snapdragon 430. The phone comes with a 13MP primary camera and a wide angle lens at the back and an 8MP shooter on the front. It’s backed by a 5,000mAh battery.
