Apple wants to make its own DND app for iPhones: Report

The US based mobile phone maker had earlier refused to approve Trai's DND app on iOS store citing privacy concerns.

Apple is said to have told Trai that it wants to build its own Do-Not-Disturb application for iPhone users. The US based mobile phone maker had earlier refused to approve Trai’s DND app on iOS store citing privacy concerns.

Trai’s DND app allows users to flag spam text messages and calls. The app from TRAI basically allows users to share logs of spam call and text message with the regulator. The data is then used to alert the operators to block the spammers.

“The new iOS features to combat spam text messages would help the government build the app, but did not comment on the app’s potential inability to access call logs for reporting spam, like the way it exists in the Android version,” according to news agency PTI.

“A technical expert said new iOS feature can help iPhone user to filter or block spam messages and block calls but not the option to file complaint with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against the spammers,” the report further added.

The issue of DND application has become a bone of contention between the Indian authorities and the Cupertino based company. But it isn’t the only one. Apple has sought many concessions from the Indian government to set up its manufacturing plant and expand its operations in the Indian market but the government has so far has not showed any inclination for the same.

Earlier Trai had openly rebuked Apple for non-cooperation over the DND app and it remains to be seen how it reacts to Apple’s latest offer.
