Apple quietly pulls plug from the Cards app

Apple has discontinued the Cards app that would let the iOS users to make letterpress cards and mail them anywhere in the world.

Apple had introduced the new Cards with the Apple iPhone 4S back in October 2011. The Cards app offered 21 different templates for creating letterpress cards, customising them with photos, and send them across the world. Apple has confirmed through a support document that the Cards app has been discontinued.

The Cards app allowed customising letters and greetings. The app enabled adding images, text and even location which can be combined together. Once the digital version of card is done, the physical card version of the same can be sent out to the addressed. Apple has quietly pulled a plug on this ambitious Cards app.

This app did not work much for several regions including India. MacRumors posted a confirmation message displayed when the Cards app is opened.

Though the Cards app appeared nifty, it had several challenges for the consumers to deal with the local post office. Since it has been discontinued, the same service can be used in the iPhoto 11 software on Mac.
