Airtel still the No 1 Indian telecom operator

While Airtel led in the operator category, UP East was on top in terms of Circle wise subscription.

Mobile subscribers in India has gone up to 779.5 million in July which is about 2.08 million increase from June 2016. In this period maximum subscribers are reported to be of Airtel with 256.81 million users.

Moreover, the maximum additions was also witnessed amongst the Airtel subscription with net addition in the month of July being 1.07 million users. Following Airtel, Vodafone has the second largest subscription with 199.71 million. Idea and Aircel were next in line with 176.49 million and 89.34 million users.

Circle wise, in July 2016 UP (East) had maximum subscribers with 71.32 million users whereas the maximum net additions was seen in Kerala Circle with 0.47 million additional users. The Maharashtra circle was next with 66.61 million users followed by Bihar (66.15 million) and Andhra Pradesh (54.95 million). Coming back to the net additions tally, after Kerala was Karnataka with 0.36 million additions followed by West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar circle with 0.34 million additions. Circles like Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir actually saw negative additions or deductions amounting to 0.17 million users compared to the month of June.

Coming to the market share, Airtel again was at the top with 32.96 percent market share followed by Vodafone at 25.64 percent and Idea cellular at 22.65 million. On the other hand, MTNL had only 0.46 percent market share. Compared to the previous month i.e. June 2016, Aircel surprisingly showed the maximum growth with 0.5 percent. Airtel was not far behind with 0.42 percent growth and Vodafone and Idea with 0.16 percent and 0.15 percent growth respectively.

Till now, all this data was related to COAI members, adding other members such as BSNL (GSM) with 81.30 million subscribers, TATA (GSM) with 48.85 million subs and Reliance and Quadrant with 75.18 million and 3.04 million respectively adds up almost 208.37 million subscribers to previous tally making it total subscription of 987.42 million users.
