HTC Explorer (Rs 7,499)

Explorer was the first India specific model launched by HTC. It has very good support for Hindi also. HTC Explorer is the budget friendly smartphone with 3.2 inch HVGA touchscreen display and houses a 600 Qualcomm MSM7225A Scorpion family processor. This handset has a 512 RAM that runs the 2.3 Gingerbread operating system quite smoothly. It features WiFi and 3.0 with A2DP. This smartphone also offers Stereo FM with RDS technology.

Besides, the bar designed Galaxy Ace S5830 has usual features like WiFi, Bluetooth, USB slot, 3.5 mm jack, FM radio, navigation, digital compass and location based services with access to Google applications like Google Maps. Sony Xperia U (Rs 12,560)

Sony has been expanding its smartphone portfolio in India for past one year and Xperia U is one of the lowest priced phones after the Xperia Tipo.

Like Samsung Galaxy Ace, it comes with a 3.5 inch screen but has Sony’s patented reality display technology that puts Sony Xperia U in an advantageous position. Sony Xperia U also offers a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory.

LG Optimus Black (Rs 14,100)

LG Optimus Black is slightly old workhorse from LG but still has very powerful specification especially at the price at which it is available and competes well with some of the recently launch more expensive phones from rivals.

The Optimus Black has a famed is its 4 inch IPS Nova display with brightness of 700 nits which makes it brightest screen even today in at least the mid-range smartphone category. Its screen also has Gorilla glass protection.

But the only drawback of Optimus Black is that it still works on Android 2.3, though Android ICS upgrade has been announced for it but the same is not expected to come before this year end. There is also no front facing camera like many smartphones in this price category.

At Rs 14,100, offered by Infibeam, the phone offers very good value for money. However, other online retailers are selling it for as high as Rs 18,900 but average price across different sellers is of Rs 15,500. At higher prices, the phone is not a good option as there are many new smartphones like Sony Xperia J which is priced at Rs 15,700.

LG Optimus 4X HD (Rs 26,499)

If you want a really powerful phone but are not willing to spend Rs 35,000 on the Samsung Galaxy SIII, you can look at LG optimus 4X HD which is available at just Rs 26,499 from Sulekha.com while the average price with other sites is Rs 28,000.

Optimus 4X HD is in fact a very new phone and is a flagship model from LG. It comes with a 4.7 inch True HD IPS panel touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel native resolution.

Optimus 4X HD houses a quad core 1.5 GHz Nvidia Tegra processor with a low power GeForce graphics chip. For smoother operation of Android 4.0 ICS with Optimus 3.0 UI on it, LG has provided 1 GB RAM in the phone. By default, this smartphone features 16 GB onboard storage and a micro card slot to accommodate a of up to 64 GB. This smartphone is only 8.9 mm thick and weighs just 133 grams.
