Xiaomi starts rolling out Android Oreo update for Mi 6

The Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched in China last year running Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with MIUI 8 on top of it.

Xiaomi released the beta version of Android Oreo-based MIUI 9 update for its flagship Xiaomi Mi6 smartphone earlier this year. Now Xiaomi has rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo update via MIUI 9.2.3 Global Stable to the Xiaomi Mi 6.

The rollout of the update has been announced on the MIUI Official Forum. The update on the official Xiaomi forum has the download links using the Fastboot Method or Recovery ROM method. Alternatively, in order to check for the latest update, users can go to Settings > About Phone. The update brings various bug fixes and plenty of optimizations.

The Oreo update will bring the picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more.

To recall, the Xiaomi Mi 6 was launched in China last year but sadly, the device never made its debut in India. The smartphone comes with a four-sided 3D glass design and features a 5.15-inch Full (1080p) display. The Mi 6 has glass on the front and back with a stainless steel frame in between. It is powered by a latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 64 bit octa-core clocked at 2.45GHz, which is clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. The smartphone now runs Android Oreo operating system. The fingerprint scanner is placed in the front under the glass. Xiaomi Mi 6 is also splash-resistant, with the SIM tray also sealed against splashes.

Xioami Mi 6 get its strength from a 3350mAh battery which is coupled with MIUI optimisations which enable the Mi 6 to last up to a full day. On the camera front, the Mi 6 comes with the dual camera set up two 12-megapixel rear cameras. One camera has a lens with 4-axis Optical Image stabilisation and another 12-megapixel telephoto camera for 2x lossless zoom. On its front, it has an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling. For connectivity, this smartphone supports network with VoLTE and offers Dual SIM, Dual speakers, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n), 4.2, GPS/ A-GLONASS, NFC and USB-Type C. Xiaomi has ditched the 3.5mm jack on the Mi 6. The Mi 6 comes with 2.2 dual WiFi technology which allows for better and wider connectivity.
