Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 not coming?

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 successor was expected to launch in January next year.

Xiaomi launched Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones in China earlier this month. Now everybody is waiting for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 successor – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and the company was also expected to launch the device in January next year. But now it seems that the Xiaomi has already launched the successor altogether but with a different name. As per a Super moderator on the MIUI forum, the already launched Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 indeed.

The moderator who goes by the name mitch002 says that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is going to remain the company’s only large-screened affordable option and the company is dropping the Note name this time. However, nothing officially has been announced by the company itself.

The moderator on the MIUI Forum has said “he wait is finally over, Xiaomi has finally decided to release the Redmi Note 5, wait!!! I heard its called the Redmi 5 Plus? No kidding?? There was a name change? Well yes folks, the 2 new Redmi Note sized phones are named Redmi 5 for the 5.7″ and Redmi 5 Plus for the 5.99″. What will happen to the successor of the Redmi 4X which is supposed to be a 5″ Redmi 5? No one knows, but as of the moment, Xiaomi has decided to drop the Note name on their 5.7″ sized budget phones. It has been quite a year and 3 months in the waiting for all of us Redmi fans from all over the world, and now we are going to unbox the bigger sibling among the two, the Redmi 5 Plus.”

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus smartphone features a bigger 5.99-inch full display with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio, and is powered by 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 with Adreno 506 GPU. It has 3GB/4GB with 32GB/64GB internal storage which is expandable to 128GB via micro card slot. It also has a fingerprint scanner on its back just like Xiaomi Redmi 5.

On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone Flash, 1.25μm pixel size. For the front, there is a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. The smartphone runs 7.1.2 Nougat based MIUI 9 and it will be backed up by 4000 mAh battery. Besides, the smartphone offers Dual SIM, LTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), 4.2, GPS, and a port.

The Redmi 5 Plus is priced at 999 Yuan (approximately Rs 9,745) for 3GB with 32GB of internal storage variant while 4GB variant with 32GB of internal storage is priced at 1299 Yuan (approximately Rs 12,675). Since the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was launched in India in January this year, we expect the Redmi 5 Plus to launch as Redmi Note 5 in January next year in India.
