Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 starts receiving Android Nougat update

The smartphone was launched earlier this year with Android Marshmallow operating system.

Xiaomi has rolled out the Nougat 7.0 update for its Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone, as per a report of GSMArena. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India earlier this year with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The Android Nougat update for Note 4 is currently rolling out in Greece and it also includes Android security patches for the month of July.

As of now, there is no information on its roll out in India but we expect the device to soon get the Nougat update in India as well, as recently a banner was spotted on Flipkart which has revealed that the Redmi Note 4 will get the Android Nougat update soon. Xiaomi, however, rolled out Android Nougat based Developer Preview for the smartphone last month but did not announce an official exact update date.

The update is around 1.3GB in size and since the update is being rolled out over-the-air, it may take some time before it comes to your device. One can also manually check for the update by going to Settings ->About Phone -> Software Update. For the update, your phone should be at least 50% charged and connected to a network.

The device is priced at Rs 9,999 for 2GB + 32GB internal storage, Rs 10,999 for 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and Rs 12,999 for 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and comes in Dark Grey, Black and Gold colour options.

Android Nougat will bring a bunch of features including split-screen multi-tasking, more customisable quick settings, improved Google keyboard, enhanced notifications and recent applications window. Further, the latest Android OS version will also bring in ‘Double Tap’ on the Recent button to switch between the two most recent apps which come in very handy at times. For extended battery life, Android Nougat comes with ‘Doze on the go’ which will get activated even if your Nougat running device is in your pocket.

As far as specifications Redmi Note 4 are concerned, it comes with a 5.5-inch full (1920 x 1080) 2.5D curved glass display and a 2.0 GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor with Adreno 506 GPU. The hybrid dual SIM smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating and has a 4100 battery. In terms of design, the smartphone features a fingerprint scanner at the back.

For the storage, it comes with 2GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB of internal storage variants, all of which are expandable via card. The smartphone offers a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual tone LED flash, PDAF, f/2.0 and a 5-megapixel front camera. On the connectivity front, the device offers with VoLTE, 4.2, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), with AGS/GLONASS and Type C. The handset measures 151 x 76 x 8.35mm and weighs 175 grams.
