Xiaomi today unveiled its latest flagship, the Mi 5, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes in black, white and gold colours.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available in three versions – one with 3GB LPDD4 RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage at CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs 21,000); another with 3GB LPDD4 RAM and 64GB storage at CNY 2,299 (approximately Rs 24,000), while an exclusive edition with 4GB LPDD4 RAM and 128GB storage will be sold at CNY 2,999 (approximately Rs 31,500).
It will be available in China from March but Hugo Barra, the global vice president of Xiaomi, said that the phone will be made available in other markets including India soon.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is the second smartphone in the world to come with the Snapdragon 820 processor. The Snapdragon 820 is said to be 200 per cent faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 810, but consumes 50 per cent less battery power.
The Mi 5 also comes with LPDDR4 RAM which is also said to be two times more powerful than DDR3 RAM. Note that it comes in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. Mi 5’s Adreno 530 graphics Processor is also said to be 40 per more powerful but 40 per cent power efficient than its predecessor. Due to the new processor the Mi 5, as per Xiaomi, offers superb performance and has got insane Antutu benchmark score of 1,42,084.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 has UFS 2.0 storage which is said to offer 87 per cent faster read write speed than eMMC 5.0 storage which is found in other smartphones. The Mi 5 comes with 4G+ (CAT 12 LTE modem) technology that can offer up to 600 Mbps speed. It also supports VoLTE.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with dual SIM, a Fingerprint scanner and Android Marshmallow operating system. It has a 5.15 inch display that has full HD resolution. The phone has a 16 megapixel rear camera that has Sony IMX298 sensor, 6P lens, phase detection auto focus feature, LED flash light support, optical image stabilisation and sapphire glass protection for lens. The rear camera can record 4K videos. For selfies, the Mi 5 offers a 4 megapixel front camera.
The Xiaomi Mi 5, which measures 144.5×69.2×7.25mm and weighs 129 grams, has a 3000 mAh battery and it comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It has a USB Type C port too. Other than that the Mi 5 offers WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC.
