Windows Phone 8 has two new music apps

Microsoft has added two new music apps – Navagraha Kritis and Melodic Chants – to its Windows Phone 8 store.

Carnatic singer Bombay Jayashri has given her voice to Navagraha Kritis Windows Phone 8 app in which seven compositions – one dedicated to each planet of the week – can be listened. Each one comes with the promise of warding off malefic effects and helping you find peace within. The melodious mantras calm you to the core. The app contains kritis on Surya, Candra, Angaraka, Budha, Brhaspati, Sukra and Sani.

Talking about how the app came into being, Bombay Jayashri says, “The Navagraha kritis, compositions of Saint Muthuswamy Dikshitar, when sung, is like praying to the planets seeking blessings for peace and health, and I hope my humble effort in this new format reaches out to the music world.”

On the other hand, Melodic Chants Windows Phone 8 app is an app meant for children. It comprises of a set to simple tunes so kids can sing along and learn. The lyrics and their meanings are also provided to help understand and learn the chants. It comprises two volumes with four chants each.

These chants, in the voices of children singing along with Bombay Jayashri, are a lyrical string of names expressing the attributes or the nature of the Divine. Volume 1 has chants to Durga, Maruti, Vishnu, and Child Krishna. Volume 2 has chants to Ganapathy, Shiva, Krishna and Amba Parameswari.
