One month after rival Zomato announced Online Food Ordering through Paytm, Swiggy has now unveiled its Swiggy Stores initiative which will allow users to order groceries, vegetables, medicines and Home Essentials across the city. Swiggy’s new service will thus rival the likes of Grofers, Amazon and BigBasket to give users access to consumer products across various categories.
Swiggy Stores will be functional through the core Swiggy App which will now start listing vendors dealing with fruits and vegetables, kiranas and supermarkets, paan shops, pet care stores, florists, baby care, health supplement, fresh meat and gourmet stores.
The new service will be accessible inside the Swiggy app and can be used by typing out the name of the store or the product you might want. Swiggy will also display you a list of popular stores in the city and list the bestselling items that a partner store is offering.
Once a user chooses the store and items they want to buy, Swiggy will be able to fulfil the order and ask you to complete the payment process. For payment, users can avail all the options that were previously available including wallets, credit/debit cards and cash-on-delivery.
The initial rollout of Swiggy Stores is scheduled to happen in the Gurgaon region in a phased manner. Swiggy has partnered with 3,500 stores across the city with delivery timings of a maximum of one hour or less. The company has also tied up with merchant-partners including the likes of Needs Supermarket, Health Kart, Apollo Pharmacy, Zappfresh, FernsNPetals and TheMomsCo to offer faster and convenient deliveries.
