After announcing not to release Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for its 2011 Xperia smartphones, Sony has now stated that it is actively investigating the possibility of issuing the update for the 2011 Xperia devices.
Earlier, a Sony Mobile executive seems to have jumped the gun by sharing an update about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update on the company’s official Facebook account. The executive had said that Sony Xperia smartphones launched in 2011 – Xperia Mini Pro and Xperia Arc S – will not be getting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bead update. That did create some unrest amongst the existing users and potential buyers.
Sony Mobile, however, has now noted in an official blog post that the company is actively investigating the possibility of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for 2011 Xperia devices. In the mean time, the company will continue to push out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia S and other 2011 Xperia phones.
Technically, all these smartphones are capable of running the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update unless they are short of RAM or on-board memory for unpacking the update. Sony still has not shared the confirmed timeline on when the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update would be rolling out for existing and 2011 Xperia devices.
