Sony halts Xperia Tablet S production owing to manufacturing defect

The water resistant tablet has been rendered open to water damage due to manufacturing flaw that has led to the halt in production of the tablet.

Sony has halted the production of its Xperia S after a major manufacturing fault was discovered in the tablet, according to a report of Reuter.

This means that the tablet would not be coming to India this month as was confirmed by the company to The Mobile Indian.

According to Reuters, the water resistant tablet was rendered prone to internal damage from water as during manufacturing a gap has been left between the display and the case of the tablet.

The problem with the tablet, which is supposed to be water resistant, is the result of a manufacturing flaw at the Chinese plant where it is fabricated, said Sony spokeswoman Noriko Shoji. While the investigation and correctional measures are being taken, Sony till now has not yet finalised as to when the production of the device will come back on track.

The new Sony Xperia Tablet S is the perfect iteration of the original Sony Tablet S that was released last year. Sony has revised the design of the Tablet S and adopted a new slimmer profile for the Xperia Tablet S. The tablet packs a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 mobile processor with GeForce Graphics chip. The Xperia Tablet S is also PlayStation certified, allowing users to enjoy some dedicated PlayStation mobile games from the PlayStation Store.

With the production halted, the delivery time in India is expected to shoot beyond the earlier expected October time frame and is now expected to be made available in the months following or by the end of this year maybe.
