Soon, we might see a new smartwatch from Samsung that will come with a secondary display on its much-famous rotary dial. According to the latest patent filed by the company, the flexible display will come with some interesting features.
The patent was published by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, which shows that the display used on the rotary dial would showcase information such as the current weather, the current song playing, similar to what we have seen in Samsung’s curved screen. Samsung points out that the rotary display actually hastwo parts, as in anupper (A1) and lower (A2) display.
However, Samsung notes that the rotation of the display would be limited to only 90 degrees. Moreover, the company has not revealed about the compatibility of other applications and whether it will boast the always-on display or not. But like all other patents, it would be interesting to see whether this one will see the light of the day or will be just another patent from Samsung.
It seems that Samsung is investing heavily on the flexible displays. The company is also reportedly working on a foldable smartphone as well. According to a report, the dual-screen smartphone will actually be hinged together, means it will open or close similar to a book. It is also reported that the smartphone will come in three different orientations: fold out to move the screens on the front and back, fold in to protect the displays, and laid out flat to use it as a tablet.
The report further adds that the company is planning to produce a small amount of the foldable smartphone and then assess the market response. And, based on the feedback, it will go further to develop more devices.
The company is reported to launch the foldable smartphone which will have a single flexible OLED screen and will arrive sometime after the dual-screen phone. The flexible smartphone can be considered as the next wave of revolution in the smartphone industry. Although, there is no official word about this development, but it would be interesting to see the upcoming foldable smartphone from Samsung’s arsenal.
