Reliance is reportedly mulling to shift the production base of JioPhone to India. Till now it was being manufactured in China.
As per the report of Livemint, the company decided to shift the production base after it faced some supply related issued at its Chinese vendor.
Reliance ordered six million units of JioPhone in the first batch from the Chinese vendor. Now it has received expression of interest for 10 million units and work too has started in China.
Mukesh Ambani had earlier told in July that the JioPhone’s production will start in India in the last quarter of this year.
“The manufacturing capacity in China is 300,000-400,000 devices per day maximum,” the report said, adding, “the capacity constraints at the Chinese vendor’s facility may result in Jio missing its sales target”.
On July 21, Reliance unveiled the JioPhone feature phone for the Indian consumers. One has to pay Rs 1,500 as security deposit, which is refundable after three years.
The company will provide free voice calls, unlimited data and Jio apps for Rs 153 per month with Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plans to JioPhone customers. The device will also come with Jio Media Cable that will allow users to connect their JioPhone with TV (not only Smart TVs but also CRT TVs) to watch live TV. The company has priced the TV pack for Rs 309 per month. Further, there two sachets, one with Rs 24 for two days and Rs 54 plan for a week. Users will enjoy the same benefits as the monthly recharge of Rs 153.
Coming to the specifications, the JioPhone features a 2.4-inch QVGA display with a screen resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The phone will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor which will either Spreadtrum SPRD 9820A or QC8905 along with Mali 400 GPU. The phone is backed by a 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
