OnePlus has announced that it will unveil its first 5G smartphone during the second quarter of this year. The company has partnered with a Finnish telecommunications network carrier Elisa to launch the first 5G device in the Finnish market.
The company has revealed that Elisa will be amongst the first to launch a commercial 5G network in Finland making it the natural partner for bringing new technology to the Finnish market. OnePlus is also gearing up to release the 5G smartphone with carrier network EE in the UK in the second half of 2019.
“5G is a revolution which can bring change far beyond the technology industry, for people everywhere, for everything from gaming through to mixed reality apps, healthcare, and much more. We’ve worked hard to lead 5G innovation as this new era starts, working closely with partners like Elisa to create something special. 5G is the catalyst which allows us to reimagine the future.” said Pete Lau, CEO and founder of OnePlus.
OnePlus will be showcasing a 5G prototype device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2019. The company has confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Apart from the improved speed and better latency, OnePlus has also hinted that gaming will be a key demonstration at the event.
