Nokia 2 will be updated directly to Android 8.1 Oreo

HMD Global has promised that it will roll out the latest Android Oreo update to its smartphone portfolio pretty soon. The brand has already rolled out Android Oreo update to Nokia 8 and it seems that the brand is planning to update the budget-centric Nokia 2 to Android 8.1 Oreo.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Officer at HMD Global, confirmed this news on Twitter. He tweeted, “Hi! It will receive Android Oreo. 1GB devices will be supported on 8.1 release where many of the Android Go memory management improvements will be integrated. Nokia 2 performance will only get better over time!”

The fact why HMD Global will update the Nokia 2 to the latest Android 8.1 Oreo is the fact that it comes with Android Go memory management and features that will help Nokia 2 to run faster on the latest Android version. To recall, Google announced Android Oreo (Go Edition) at Google For India event in December this year.

The latest Android Oreo (Go edition) is specially optimized for the entry-level handsets and it includes better performance along with built-in data management features and security benefits. The brand has also designed a new set of Google apps including includes Google Go, Google Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, Gboard, Google Play, Chrome, and the new Files Go app, which are meant to be lighter and it will smoother on the entry-level devices.

HMD Global recently announced its budget-centric Nokia 2 in India. The smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 6,999 and it is available in three colour options including Pewter/Black, Pewter/White and Copper/Black.

The Nokia 2 is made from 6000 series of an aluminium body, which provides some durability to the smartphone. The phone features 5-inch LTPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels coupled with 3 protection. The major highlight of the device is the 4100mAh battery, which the company claims to last 2 days.

The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 mobile platform clocked at 1.3GHz. The phone is backed by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable in nature.
