MTS reduces tariff in Tamil Nadu

Offers three times more data for the same money it used to charge to its customers in Tamil Nadu. Offers 25 paisa per minute STD with a STV of Rs 25.

MTS, the CDMA operator, has announced new tariff plans for both its voice and data customers in Tamil Nadu. The operator had earlier announced data tariff reduction in West Bengal, and New Delhi and had said it will do similar reduction across all the circles where it has operations.

For the voice users a new special tariff voucher (STV) of Rs 25, reduces all the STD call rates to 25 paisa per month. The STV is valid for 30 days or for the first 250 minutes of STD calling, post which the customers will be charged 50 paisa per minute for STD calls.

For its data customers MTS will now offer 1 day unlimited data for RS 96 with high speed data cap of 1GB, similarly a 30 day 1GB pack will cost Rs 248, while earlier it used to get you just 350MB.

The only other unlimited plan is a 7 days pack for Rs 348 offering 2GB high speed data (post this at slower 126 speed). A new Rs 490 pack has been added which offers 3GB data usage for 30 days.

Another new pack costing Rs 698 offers 4GB data for 60 days and a Rs 998 pack now offers 6GB pack for 90 days. There is another 90 day pack with 15GB data costing Rs 1499. Beyond the data cap, MTS will charge Re 1 per which is amongst the lowest for any operator (except RCom).

While the new tariff structure is a significant reduction, however there seems to be a clear lack of unlimited data options by MTS. GSM operators like Reliance and Aircel are offering more unlimited plans at similar prices and similar high speed data cap. For example While Aircel is offering unlimited plans for 198 with 1GB high speed data usage, MTS new plan offer 1GB data for Rs 250 but charges for any usage beyond that at Rs 1 per MB.
