Motorola has started rolling out the Android Oreo 8.1 update for the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones. While the update is rolling for Moto G5 Plus users in India and Brazil only, the update for Moto G5 is currently rolled out for users in Mexico.
Motorola confirmed the update on official consumer help forum. “Hello everyone, I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting Oreo for your Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5. I’m happy to say that we’ve started rolling out the Oreo update in phases for the Moto G5 Plus in India and Brazil and the Moto G5 in Mexico. Please be patient as not all devices in India, Brazil, and Mexico will get the update immediately. Other regions are still pending and will get the update in the future, ” Motorola forum admin said.
The update is currently being rolled out in a phased manner, so it may take to while reaching every handset around the world. Owners can also check for updates manually by going to Settings >> About Phone >> System Updates, and check for the update. Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus were launched last year with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system ath the MWC event.
After the update, users will Oreo update goodies like Picture in Picture (PIP) display, Adaptive icons, Background limits, Notification channels, snooze notifications, Autofill APIs, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements and more.
To recall, Moto G5S Plus features a 5.2-inch Full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels), Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB/4GB RAM, 16GB/32GB of storage and 128GB expandable memory. It has a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera. The device features a 3000mAh battery.
Moto G5 comes with a 5-inch Full HD display with a screen resolution of a 1980 x 1080 pixels, Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It has a 2800mAh battery coupled with 10W rapid charger and features a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.
