Microsoft showcases 7 inch tablet

The 7 inch tablet has 2 GB RAM and Windows operating system.

As speculated earlier, Microsoft has showcased its new 7 inch display bearing Surface tablet at the Computex 2013 event which is being held in Taiwan.

The tablet, dubbed as Lyon, is being made by a company named Inventec. However, the Lyon tablet will just remain as a reference design tablet only and will not be making its way to the store. But the good news is that since it’s the reference design most of the tablet that will now be made by companies will be based on similar design and hardware specifications.

The 7 inch reference tablet based on Windows operating system packs a seven inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 2 RAM, and 64 or 128 GB internal storage which could be further expanded by a micro SD card. The tablet however will have WiFi only connectivity and does not have or radio capabilities. For power the tablet relies on a 4000 battery, common in most 7 inch tablets available these days. But since this is a reference model, the specs can be changed in the final model.

Apple’s iPad Mini (WiFi), which has a 7.8 inch display, is presently selling in the market for around Rs 21,900. Google Nexus 7, which is priced at Rs 18,000, comes with 32 GB internal storage and WiFi. Considering these two opponents, Microsoft is likely to price its 7 inch tablet around the Rs 20,000 mark.
