Land Rover Explore rugged smartphone with swappable back covers launched ahead of MWC 2018

The device comes with a price tag of $649 (approx Rs 42,084).

Land Rover, a well-known brand in the premium automobile segment, and Bullitt Group has announced the launch of its new rugged smartphone known as Explore. The device comes with a price tag of $649 (approx Rs 42,084) and it will be available for order from April through Land Rover Explore website.

The phone will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, followed by the Geneva Motor Show that is scheduled to take place from March 08, 2018 to March 18, 2018. The major highlight of the rugged smartphone is the attaching of different Packs to the pogo pings at the back of the phone.

The company has bundled an Adventure Pack that adds a 3600mAh battery to the phone along with patch that improves the accuracy of the GPS. The Pack also act as a protective case and comes with stainless steel carabiner with canvas strap. Then there is a Bike Pack that lets you mount the phone on a bike and it has a case for both stem and handlebar. Further, there is a Battery pack that comes with a 4370mAh battery.

The company claims that the smartphone is the toughest smartphone in the world. The phone is waterproof up to 1.8 metres and it can also survive being completely submerged in salt water. Further, the phone can handle extreme drops, temperature, thermal sock and intense vibrations.

Coming to sheer specifications, the Land Rover Explore features a 5-inch Full display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display can be used with wet fingers and it can be used with gloves as well. The phone is powered by a 2.6GHz deca-core MediaTek Helio X27 along with Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

The phone is backed by a 4GB of and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to via micro SD card slot. On the camera front, the Explore features a 16-megapixel rear camera with flash and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. The phone runs on 7.1.1 Nougat, which is upgradable to Android Oreo and it is backed by a 4000mAh of battery. On the connectivity front, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), 4.2, GPS + GLONASS, dual SIM and port.
