It seems that the race of rolling out a first foldable smartphone is getting intense as both Samsung and Huawei are reportedly gearing up to launch their own version of the foldable smartphone. However, as per a news report, Huawei might launch its foldable smartphone right before Samsung’s phone.
The Huawei is gearing up to launch the device in 2019 and well before Samsung. The flexible OLED panel will be manufactured by BOE Technology Group. “Huawei’s planned volume could be limited to some 20,000 to 30,000 units, or even less, for a small group of first-wave adopters. The effort is mainly to demonstrate its technological capability and to attract the industry’s attention and media coverage,” a person familiar with Huawei’s plan said.
Huawei is planning to a launch in early 2019 to launch its latest foldable smartphone. As per a patent granted to the company, the foldable device will have a single screen that bends instead of two separate displays that would need to be attached by a hinge.
Samsung, on the other hand, is also reported to launch its foldable smartphone in early 2019. the upcoming Samsung smartphone will be internally codenamed ‘Winner’ and feature a 7-inch display with a folding screen which can be folded in half “like a wallet”. It is said to be officially announced in early 2019. It is to be noted that this is in line with the previous report suggesting that Samsung might launch the device during Mobile World Congress in February next year.
