HTC planning a Blockchain-powered smartphone

HTC has not shared any release date or price of the phone but it has been currently listed on its website for bookings. Meanwhile, HTC Vive creator Phil Chen have been quoted as saying that the company may consider cryptocurrency as a means of payment for the upcoming multiple blockchain-powered phone.

HTC has announced a first of its kind native blockchain phone, called Exodus.

“Our vision is to expand the blockchain ecosystem by creating the world’s first phone dedicated to decentralized applications and security. With the release of the HTC Exodus we can now make this a reality,” says HTC.

HTC says it wants to support Bitcoin and Ethereum with universal wallet, secure hardware and decentralized apps.

The phone will reportedly feature a universal cryptocurrency wallet as well as a secure hardware enclave. The company said that it will offer enhanced security and data protection.

HTC has not shared any release date or price of the phone but it has been currently listed on its website (even on HTC India) for bookings. Meanwhile, HTC Vive creator Phil Chen have been quoted as saying that the company may consider cryptocurrency as a means of payment for the upcoming multiple blockchain-powered phone.

As per the listing on HTC India website, the company is working with multiple protocols with the intent of interoperability between blockchains.

HTC says its aim is to offer users their own “identity and data on the phone rather in a centralized cloud”.

“We want to double and triple the number of nodes of Ethereum and Bitcoin,” added HTC.

As of now, HTC has released only the sketches and hopefully we will hear more about the phone soon.

HTC has been struggling in the smartphone space and it is hard to imagine the justification of it launching a Block-chain powered phone. True, the awareness and interest surrounding blockchain-powered cryptocurrency has increased considerably in recent times but it is hard to imagine how that would make Exodus a much sought after device.
