Hero to launch almost a dozen new electric scooters this financial year: Report

The electric segment is still in its nascent stage despite massive push from the government. With the govt planning to set up charging stations every three km in the country (initially it may happen in cities and along major highways), the electric segment would certain to see multi-fold growth in the coming times.

India’s leading two-wheeler maker, Hero is reportedly planning to launch two new scooters this financial year.

A high-end electric scooter which is code-named AXLHE-20 is expected to be one of the new launches. Apart from that the company is reportedly planning to launch 7-8 new products this year, reports claimed.

The so called AXLHE-20 is expected with a 4,000 watt motor that could give 6,000 watts of peak power. “This can propel the scooter to a top speed of 85 kmph and give it a range of approximately 100-110 kilometres on a single charge. The AXLHE-20 will also have connected technologies such as smartphone integration, pairing and so on,” NDTV reported.

Currently, Hero Electric offers bikes in two series: High speed and Super Economy.

The Hero High Speed series include products like NYX, Photon and Photon 72V. The NYX is available in Delhi at Rs 55,490 while the Photo 72V costs Rs 49,490 in Delhi.

The Super Economy series include Flash, Cruz, Optima, Nyx e2, Optima e2.

The company sold 30,000 electric scooters last finanial year and is aiming to triple it in FY19. Hero is planning to spend Rs 500 core more in the business to take the sales to six lakh units by 2022-23.
