Global shopping and deals service provider, Groupon has acquired location based service provider Glassmap. This will help Groupon to provide its users deals and offers on the basis of their current location.
Groupon has last year launched its services in India under the brand name of Crazeal, so this recent acquisition is expected to help Groupon users in India as well.
“Today, we’re happy to announce that Glassmap has been acquired by Groupon! Our goal when we started building Glassmap was to help people find what was interesting and relevant around them,” said Groupon while announcing the acquisition. This will certainly be beneficial for a lot of users and especially when Roaming around the city as it is when personalisation is mostly required.
Glassmap services will be shut down by February 15 this year and its users will no longer be able to access its services after that. However, Groupon has not announced when it would merge Glassmap’s services with its own.
