Earlier last week, Google released its new instant Messaging App called ‘Allo’ which the company actually announced in Google I/O back in June 2016. The app already had booked its place inside the tech industry and soon after it was released, a lot of reviews and critiques popped up instantly. There was this huge doubt if Allo could stand against giants like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.
It crossed 1 million downloads within 4 days of release and now the app has crossed 5 million downloads on Google Play Store. Further, reports also suggested that Allo stood at the Number 1 spot through out the weekend. However, it now stands at 8th position. But actually, Allo doesn’t need to compete with Whatsapp as it is unique in its own sense.
Google Allo has this unique bot in the name of Google Assistant which has proven to be extremely successful as it can be a lot useful while we chat over the app. Moreover, just like Hike, Allo can also send free SMS to non-Allo users and can even encourage them to download the app. There are ton of other features like Incognito Chat, Shout and Whisper while we chat etc.
Last Month, Google also released its go to Video calling app ‘Duo’. Google Duo received a lot of positive response but it all seem to have fade away. Hopefully, it’s not the case with Google Allo but chances are soon people wouldn’t really talk about Allo. The problem is not the competitors, the problem actually is the user base. Why would someone talk over Allo, if his/her friends are not on the app? Google Allo suffers from the same issue which any other instant app would in today’s date. It is true that the adoption rate is far more than any other new instant messaging app but will it last forever? No, mainly because there is no strong reason to shift from Whatsapp to Allo or from any other primary messaging app. People download such apps just for to see the new features and soon the app find itself in Trash.
Google Allo no doubt is an amazing instant messaging app and has all the potential to become the most popular one as well but it is difficult.
