Datawind, maker of the famous Aakash and UBiSlate tablets, has announced its partnership with GetJar application store to provide free applications for its products. Following this partnership, GetJar will provide applications that will come preloaded on the two tablets.
Datawind will also announce some new products for the Indian market that are expected to retail with a similar price tag as the Aakash tablet. These products, however, will not be available for purchase in electronics stores or markets and will only be available for purchase online.
Going forward, UBiSlate users will definitely benefit a lot more through this partnership as other than providing free applications, GetJar also has its Gold program under which it offers popular premium applications for free.
GetJar’s Gold application program was launched last year. Under this program, GetJar offers popular paid applications absolutely free of cost to any user downloading the application through the GetJar store. Till now, it has offered popular gaming titles like Asphalt 6 Adrenaline of Gameloft, which otherwise retails at Rs 50 onwards at various third party application stores.
GetJar store offers its customers access to over 350,000 free applications, many of which users would have to pay for in other app stores. GetJar accomplishes this through an advertising-based model, having developers pay for placing their applications, and thus subsidising the consumer’s costs. This is especially important in markets like India where online payment methods are unreliable and unavailable.
