Caterpillar launches rugged Android smartphone

The CAT B10 is rugged and waterproof. It has enough specs to handle most tasks with ease as well.

Caterpillar (CAT), a renowned manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, has announced the launch of its latest rugged powered smartphone – the CAT B10.
The CAT B10 is an IP-67 certified smartphone which means that it can withstand dust, water, drop and even impacts. The phone is placed inside a one inch thick protective rubber casing that protects it from damages. The protective glass on the device that secures the display is provided by Asahi, a leading automotive glass manufacturer. The display of the smartphone has been strengthened to resists scratches and cracks during falls.

The CAT B10 features Android Gingerbread operating system and newly adopted three touchscreen key- menu, search and return, that has been made mandatory for all Android Icecream Sandwich based devices. So there is no denying the fact that the company might also be looking at upgrading this device to Android ICS 4.0 in the coming times but there has been no official timeline shared for this upgrade.

The Caterpillar CAT B10 features an 800 application processor, a five rear camera and a front facing VGA camera for video conferencing as well. It comes with a 3.2 inch capacitive display; the smaller size further makes the display less prone to damages. The capable device has dual connectivity option besides WiFi and Bluetooth.

The device has been priced at 370 Euros or Rs 25,000 approximately for Europe and will be made available worldwide through CAT authorized dealers towards the end of May this year.
