In a strategic move, Bharti Airtel has partnered with Uber to allow its users to make payments for the rides through Airtel Money (mobile wallet service) across India. Also, Airtel will provide free 4G internet connection to Uber users during their travel in Mumbai and this facility will be rolled out in other parts of the country later.
As an introductory offer under the partnership, new Uber riders who top up their Airtel Money wallet will earn up to Rs 500 for free. And on the other hand Uber will also offer Airtel customers discount of Rs 500 off on their first ride upon using Airtel Money for payment.
Airtel Money is a prepaid mobile wallet by Airtel and to avail benefits of this partnership, registered Airtel Money customers have to link their account on Uber’s mobile app.
Bharti Airtel had launched Airtel Money in 2011. It allows its users to load cash on their mobile devices and spend it to pay utility bills and recharges, shop at 7,000+ merchant outlets, transact online etc.
Apart from serving as an easy alternative to cash / card payment options, Airtel Money also offers customers the convenience of instant money transfer from an Airtel Money wallet to another Airtel Money wallet and bank accounts.
