Amazon unveils two Kindle Fire HD tabs

The HD display bearing tablets come with custom Android 4.0 ICS, dual-core Texas Instrument processor and dual-antenna WiFi support.

Amazon has announced two new tablets – 7-inch Kindle Fire HD and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD, at a special event in California, USA. Amazon’s chief executive officer, Jeff Bezos showed off the new Kindle Fire HD tablets with HD supporting display, powerful hardware and greater connectivity.

The new Kindle Fire HD 7-inch tablet is the refreshed model version of last year’s Kindle Fire tablet. The new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet features full HD resolution display. Kindle Fire HD tablets features dual-core Texas Instruments and will start shipping from November 20 onwards.

The new 7-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet features an Inplane Switching HD touchscreen display with 1280×800 resolution. The screen offers 215.6 pixel per inch density. In simpler terms, the text will appear crisper and easier to read.

Amazon has also added Advanced True Wide polarizing filter and has a custom laminated touch sensor on the display for 25 per cent less glare. For faster downloads, the Kindle Fire HD features and dual-antenna comprising WiFi chip that supports multiple-input multiple-output technology for 40 per cent speed boost.

The 7-inch Kindle Fire HD is 0.4-inch thick and houses a dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP 4460 mobile processor along with 1 GB RAM. This tablet still uses a custom version of 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Amazon has packed dual stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus audio technology for best possible audio experience. The Kindle Fire HD comes in 16 GB and 32 GB on-board storage options and will have a front facing camera capable of supporting front-facing Skype video calls in HD resolution.

Meanwhile, Kindle has also introduced a new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet with 8.9-inch touchscreen display supporting 1920×1200 pixel resolution. This display carries same qualities found in the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is slightly thinner than the 7 inch variant, with a thickness of 0.35-inch.

It houses a dual-core TI OMAP 4470 mobile processor along with 1 GB RAM. Even this tablet runs modified version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Better quality audio is promised with the dual-stereo speakers powered by Dolby Digital Plus audio technology.

The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will be offered in the WiFi only version with 16 GB and 32 GB on-board storage options. Amazon will also offer WiFi+4G versions with 32 GB and 64 GB on-board storage.

Both tablets will feature the new X-ray for Movies, Textbook, and Books applications. All tablets get free for all Amazon offered content. For web browsing, these new tablets use Cloud-accelerated web – Amazon Silk.

Amazon’s new 7-inch Kindle Fire HD is available for pre-order from today for only $199 (10,000 approximately) for 16 GB, $249 (Rs 12,500 approximately) for 32 GB and will start shipping on September 14.

The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet is also available for pre-order for $299 (Rs 15,000) for 16 GB while the 32 GB version can be ordered for $369 (Rs 18,000 approximately). It will start shipping from November 20. The 32 GB version of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is available for pre-order for $499 (Rs 25,000 approximately) while its 64 GB version costs $599 (Rs 30,000 approximately).

Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD tablets are set to compete with recently announced Google Nexus 7 tablet with quad-core mobile processor inside.
