Amazon unveils new Kindle Fire HDX tablets

Amazon has refreshed its tablet line-up with the new Kindle Fire HDX series tablets with 7-inch and 8.9-inch models.

Amazon has formally launched the new Fire OS based tablets – Kindle Fire HDX and new Kindle Fire HD. These tablets also accompany two refreshed Kindle Fire HD models. The new Kindle Fire HDX and Kindle Fire HD models will run the updated version of Amazon’s own Fire OS 3.0 “Mojito” that brings cloud services, content forwarding user interface, media libraries, productivity apps and several under-the-hood enhancements. Sporting full HD displays, and bumped processing powers, the 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX will be offered starting $229 (Rs 14,414 approximately) while the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX model will be offered starting $379 (Rs 23,810 approx.).

The Mobile Indian had reported about updated Kindle Fire HD tablets. Now Amazon has formally announced the new Kindle Fire HD models and Kindle Fire HDX lineup.

New Kindle Fire HD

The new Kindle Fire HD tablets consist of updated 7-inch display bearing Kindle Fire HD powered with dual-core 1.5 GHz mobile processor. This tablet features WiFi, Dolby Audio and Dual Stereo Speakers at the back. This tablet runs Fire OS 3.0 Mojito and features new version of Amazon Silk web browser. The starting model of Kindle Fire HD tablet has a 7-inch display with 1280×800 pixel resolution. Its design and aesthetics resemble with the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets. Besides, it has various other features including X-Ray for Music, Prime Instant Video Downloads and X-Ray for movies, TV shows. Amazon will offer this entry level Kindle Fire HD in 8 GB or 16 GB storage options at a starting price of $139 (Rs 8,775 approximately).

Another Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has an 8.9-inch touchscreen display with 1920×1200 pixel resolution that translates to 254 pixels per inch pixel density. This tablet packs a dual-core 1.5 GHz mobile processor and features a Dual-Band dual-Antenna (MIMO) WiFi for faster downloads. Amazon offers this model in 16 GB/32 GB WiFi only model and 32 GB/64 GB WiFi+4G model. This tablet has a front facing HD camera. Amazon has also added Dolby Audio and Dual Stereo speakers for best quality output while enjoying movies, music and TV shows. Amazon will offer the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 for $269 (Rs 16,930 approximately).

Both new Kindle Fire HD models promise 10 hours of battery life to compete with the Google Nexus 7 and Apple iPad mini models.

Kindle Fire HDX

The new Kindle Fire HDX tablet features a new design and 9 mm thickness. Kindle Fire HDX series includes two models in which the 7-inch display bearing Kindle Fire HDX features 1920×1200 pixel resolution and thereby offering pixel density of 323 pixels per inch. This model is powered by a quad-core 2.2 GHz mobile processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) and packs dual-band dual-antenna (MIMO) WiFi for faster downloads. Better sound experience is promised by Dolby Audio and Dual Stereo Speakers. This tablet has a front facing HD camera to enable video chat. Amazon will offer this tablet in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models starting at a price of $229 (Rs 14,414 approximately). This tablet promises 11 hours of run time over mixed usage and 17 hours of run time when only reading.

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 model features 8.9-inch touchscreen display that packs 2560×1600 pixel resolution. This display pushes 339 pixels per inch resolution. Even this tablet is powered by the quad-core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor. Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is on the top of the line featuring 8 camera at the back that is said to be capable of recording HD videos. There is a front facing HD camera and features dual-band, dual (MIMO) WiFi for faster web browsing experience. The tablet also packs Dolby Audio and Dual Stereo Speakers for best quality output. This tablet promises 12 hours of run time with mixed usage and 18 hours of run time while only reading. Amazon will offer this tablet in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models with WiFi only and WiFi+4G LTE configurations. The base model is priced starting $379 (Rs 23,810 approx.).

Amazon has also added new Mayday Tech support button that promises on device tech support any time, literally. All new Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets are ready to be used by the Enterprises with support for user partition to secure data and Kerberos authentication to browse intranet websites.

All Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets will feature the Amazon Exclusive services and Cloud services to enjoy the multi-media content any time. Amazon has offered pre-order on all models but the tablets will start shipping only on 14 November next month. As of now, there are no updates on Amazon about making these tablets available in India along with other regions.
