The Indian government is now mulling stricter penalties for users of torrent websites which are accused of infringing copyrights. As per reports, the government is now thinking of jail terms of up to three years and fine of up to three lakh rupees for anyone opening torrent/blocked sites.
Department of Telecommunications recently asked all the major ISPs like Airtel to block all the torrent websites such as Torrentz, Kickass Torrents etc.
However, people often find a way to access these sites which have become favourite way to download movies, musics and other files which are otherwise are protected by copyrights. Recently, the founder of a famous torrent website, Kickass, was held in US and all over the world governments are cracking down on such websites but no where such a law was proposed wherein users could even be fined for just opening a “blocked website”.
Most importantly, how government could implement this is even more puzzling.
