Datawind, the maker of the low cost Aakash tablet, has now launched three smartphones in the affordable category. The handsets are named as PocketSurfer 5x, PocketSurfer 5C+, and PocketSurfer 3G5 and are priced at Rs 3,499, Rs 4,999, and Rs 6,499 respectively. All the three handsets come with dual SIM facility.
Datawind’s PocketSurfer 5x comes with Linux operating system, while PocketSurfer 5C+ and PocketSurfer 3G5 come with Android 4.0 and Android 4.2 respectively. PocketSurfer 3G5 is only 3G enabled while the other two are 2G devices.
PocketSurfer 5x comes with a 1 GHz Cortex A8 chipset, a front VGA camera, 5 inch screen with QVGA resolution, and said to provide 3 hours talktime and 1 day’s standby. It has a micro USB port, a micro SD card slot (capacity not known), Bluetooth, and FM radio. It has a dimension of 153x78x10.5 (height, width, thickness).
PocketSurfer 5C+ is 10.6 mm thick and comes with Bluetooth, WiFi, FM radio, 1 GHz Cortex A9 chipset, front VGA camera, 2 megapixel rear camera, 5 inch capacitive touch screen, micro SD card slot, and micro USB port.
PocketSurfer 3G5 has a 5 inch touchscreen, 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 5 megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, Bluetooth, FM radio, WiFi, micro SD card slot, 4 GB inbuilt memory, 32 GB micro USB port.
