WhatsApp is the most used chatting app around the world and Meta owned service has been adding a bunch of new features lately. However, one of the features WhatsApp has had for a while now, are custom notifications. Such notifications allow you to instantly recognise who has texted you without even seeing the text, thanks to custom notification ringtones. But how to set these type of custom notifications? Let’s answer the question in this step-by-step guide.
Open WhatsApp and tap on the profile photo of the group or individual for which you want to set the custom notification for.
Now tap on the ‘i’ button which is the last one amongst the four buttons.

Next, click on Custom notifications and click ‘Use custom notifications’.
Now, the options in the menu will be available to customise. For individual chats, you can set custom notification ringtones, vibrate patterns, and also set these as ‘High priority notifications’ so they appear first in the notification panel. You can change the call ringtones and vibration pattern for the call from that contact as well. However, you cannot set call notifications for a group. Lastly, if your phone has an LED on the front, you can change the colour of that LED and assign a specific colour to a contact.
This was how you can set custom notifications for WhatsApp contacts. These type of notifications allow you to instantly recognise which of your contacts has sent you a message or who is calling you. For instance, on the basis of the ringtone, you can choose to ignore or accept the call without taking the phone out of your pocket.
