Nokia, India’s leading mobile phone seller, did come out with its Android operating system based smartphone – Nokia X. But the series received mixed response from both buyers and experts. So if you are not one of the fans of Nokia X, here are few alternatives which too are available for less than Rs 10,000 as the Nokia handset.
Note that the phones were selected here on the basis of their features and their real life operation may be a bit different. In our last installment of “Top 5 Android Smartphones Under Rs 10,000” earlier in February this year, we had selected Lenovo A706, Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus, Spice Pinnacle FHD, Micromax Canvas 2 Plus, and the Xolo Q X Edition.
Since then there were few newcomers in the price segment while few older mid-range devices too have got a price cut. Read on to find out the best handsets in this price range. Also note that the listing is random and does not indicate their ranking per se.
It was launched in February this year for Rs 10,999 but now is available online for best price of Rs 9,999, though most e-retailers offer it for Rs 10,500. But this handset has everything that makes it one of the biggest contender in the sub-Rs 10,000 Android smartphone segment.
For instance, it comes with a 5-inch display is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 based mobile chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz. This mobile chipset also integrates Mali 400MP GPU for decent graphics support. Gionee has paired this mobile chipset with 1 GB RAM which makes it a decent budget level configuration – at least on the paper. Also, it has a good looking 8 megapixel rear camera, an LED flash and a 2 megapixel front camera.
However, its display has only 854×480 pixel resolution. Like most of its competitors, it too has 4 GB on-board storage and 32 GB micro SD card slot.
Its USP is its big battery; its massive 4200 mAh battery claims to offer 31.5 hours of talktime which undoubtedly makes it one of the best phone in terms of battery life under Rs 10,000. Besides, the Gionee M2 comes with dual-Band 3G network in one of the SIM slots and WiFi.
Spice Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550
It is another device which has got a price cut recently but unlike the Gionee M2, it has received a huge price cut. It was launched in India for Rs 15,499 in October last year but now it is available for just Rs 9,999.
The Spice Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 comes with a huge 5.5 inch LCD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. The phablet has an 8 megapixel rear camera, dual LED flash, and a 2 megapixel front camera. Besides, it come with a 1.2 GHz quad core processor, 8 GB internal memory, 1 GB RAM, 32 GB expandable storage slot, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
In Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550, there is a huge 2500 mAh battery, dual SIM (both SIMs are 3G capable), WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. As its name suggests, it comes with a stylus for which the phablet has a special slot in its body as well.
Micromax Canvas 2 Plus offers a 5-inch touchscreen display with 480×854 pixel resolution which may not be appealing at first. However, the Canvas 2 Plus is powered by a 1.2 GHz Mediatek MT6589M quad-core processor and PowerVR SGX544 graphics Chip. Micromax has added 1 GB RAM to make the device run the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update smoothly.
The smartphone comes packed with 4 GB on-board storage and a 32 GB micro SD card slot. Besides, the Micromax Canvas 2 Plus has an 8 megapixel camera at the back along with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front camera. The rear camera can record HD quality videos. For connectivity, the Micromax Canvas 2 Plus has WiFi along with a 3G network support via one of its SIM module of the two SIM slots. There is a 2000 mAh battery in the phone that might be bit less for this heavy dual-SIM handset users.
Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus
Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus is the successor of the Titanium S5 and, as apparent, comes with some improvements. The S5 Plus has a 5-inch IPS LCD display with 960×540 pixel resolution. Karbonn has loaded the S5 Plus with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM. Though it has only 4 GB internal storage, you can use its expandable memory slot to beef up its storage which can accommodate a maximum of 32 GB micro SD card.
Karbonn has armed the phone with an 8 megapixel rear autofocus camera and an LED Flash. There is a VGA camera in its front for video calls. The Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus is loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system and comes with WiFi support for faster mobile internet experience. This dual-SIM handset offers 3G SIM support in one of the slots as well. Besides, the phone has Bluetooth, FM Radio and GPS with A-GPS support. The only cringe-worthy part would be the 1800 mAh battery inside this handset. Check our review of the Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus.
Xolo had introduced the Q800 X-Edition as the successor to the Q800 and packed it with decent features. The Q800 X-Edition features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display that supports 960×540 pixel resolution. Xolo Q800 X-Edition has a quad-core 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT6589 processor, 1 GB RAM, and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system.
The phone has an 8 megapixel camera at the back which, as per the company, can record full high definition videos. There is an LED flash in the back as well while in its front lies a 1 megapixel for video calls. It has a 2100 mAh battery that promises decent run time. It too comes with dual SIM configuration of which one supports 3G Networks. Xolo Q800 X-Edition also has Bluetooth, FM Radoi and GPS with A-GPS to match up with other devices in this segment.
