Xiaomi has announced the launch of its first Go smartphone in India. The brand has introduced the much-awaited Redmi Go for the Indian market, which is targeted at the first-time smartphone buyers.

Connectivity options for the phone will include support, 4G, Wi-Fi, 4.1, and a micro-USB port. on board include Light sensor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer. The Redmi Go measures 140.4×70.1×8.35mm and weighs 137 grams.

On the camera front, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is equipped with an 8-megapixel primary lens with f/2.0 aperture, 4-element lens, 1.12-micron size along with flash. We were able to take some camera shots from this smartphone during our breif testing and found out that it deliveres some decent results in broad daylight, though we are sceptical about the indoor and low light performance.

Moving on, the smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 along with 308 GPU. Although it is too early to tell you about the performance, but judging by the sheer specifications, the smartphone seems to be a decent option if you want it as a secondary smartphone.

The major highlight of the smartphone is Android Go partnership. With this, users will get experience, which has been specially optimised for these kind of handsets. The company has revealed that the phone will support Lite apps like Gmail Go, Assistant Go, Maps Go etc, which does not eat up much space and are optimised for entry-level smartphones.

Coming to the display, the phone is equipped with a 5.0-inch display with a screen of 1280 x 720 pixels. The phone has 296ppi pixel density, which offers some decent colour output and it is a good thing that Xiaomi is atleast offering a HD screen with this smartphone.

Starting with its design, the smartphone comes loaded with a plastic build and there is a small screen up front with noticable amount of bezels. The phone features a single-camera setup at the rear along with selfie flash.

The latest smartphone from Xiaomi comes loaded with a pretty decent specs sheet when it compare to other smartphones priced at the same segment and the phone is priced at Rs 4,499.

Overall, the smartphone does not meant to impress you or attract you with top-of-the-line features. The Redmi Go is meant to bring feature phone consumers to the smartphone highway.

The phone is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that the company claims can offer up to 10 days of standby time. The less powerful along with optimised apps should help prolong the battery life of the smartphone.
