CES 2012: Dragon Go comes to Android

0

Nuance Communications, a US-based multinational software developer that provides speech and imaging applications, has announced its latest innovation for devices at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA.

Named Dragon Go, the service allows users to access mobile content simply by using their voice from over 200 trusted and reliable sources that include AccuWeather, Ask.com, Bing, Dictionary.com, ESPN, Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia, to name a few.

The software application searches local as well as international data on the basis of what users say. Dragon Go combines learning and innovations from Nuance’s Dragon voice recognition and linguistics engine to make speech recognition simpler and more accurate, thereby providing better support than many existing applications available today.

Dragon Go has been launched internationally as of now, but it will soon make its way for the Indian audience.

###PAGE###

Sources familiar with the development had told The Mobile Indian, “We are ready with a new speech recognition application for the Indian market and will be launching it soon.” Sources further added that this application will not be just a replica of the international version but will be fully optimised and trained to understand Indian accents, which will be a great leap for any speech recognition software.

Nuance had some time back released its Dragon naturally speaking software. The helps users create emails, documents and spreadsheets. Users are just required to talk to their mobile device, and the software converts speech to text. As per the user’s requirement, voice can be converted to SMS, email or any other text document.

Although there has been no information on Dragon Go’s price, we hope that it will carry a user friendly price tag to be used on a larger scale.

Driving assistant app on Android &#151 iOnRoad

0

The idea behind iOnRoad is to help people avoid collisions while driving, and with most users carrying smartphones with high cameras and processing power, this is very useful.

The app is available for free download on Android. It uses a camera, which keeps an eye on the road ahead, monitors traffic and warns the user at relevant times. It comes either with audible alert, or colour code. The app may run either right in front so the users can view it all the time, or it may run in the background.

It takes some time when the smartphone gets the signal, but within 30 seconds it shows the current speed, a green lane and the vehicle in front is showed with colour codes and risk levels. The app helps if users have had a slight lapse of concentration.

The iOnRoad also keeps an eye on lane drift, as well as of cars ahead that suddenly slow down. Currently, the app works well with any device that has a 1 GHz processor, or runs Android Froyo or higher.

The app iOnRoad improves driving for users with advanced smartphones. The app asks users for permission to take pictures and videos from the phone’s camera, and it accesses the phone’s features to make calls as well. It also asks for permission to write in the USB storage and the card, and accesses the device GPS system. The app is not all that seasoned in the market, so users need to be careful before they grant these permissions.

So, until we get more information, stay tuned.

CES 2012: Nvidia shows Rs 13K tab with quad core processor

Popular graphics and mobile chip solutions provider, Nvidia, has showcased a 7 inch tablet, which the company claims has identical hardware specs to the Transformer Prime tablet but with a much pocket friendlier price tag of almost Rs 13,000. The device is being manufactured by Asus.

The tablet, which was unveiled during the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas, USA, has not been named and will compete with low cost tablets like Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

Nvidia’s chief executive officer, Jen-Hsun Huang, did not share much about the specifications of the tablet during his presentation at CES. However, he said that the 7 inch tablet will be based on Nvidia’s latest quad core – Tegra 3, and will feature the latest Google Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

CES 2012: Motorola to launch wireless charger

0

Mobile phone manufacturer Motorola has released a teaser for its new charging technology, which will be revealed soon at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 in Las Vegas, USA, this week.

The technology, as per Motorola, will rid users of wall chargers and a bunch of cables that keep tangling our lives. The teaser video, which shows a wall charger crying because it isn’t being used, surely points at a much more efficient charging technology than we have seen in the past.

Wireless chargers are not new as products like Power Mat have been around for quite a long time now. Power Mat uses induction based charging technology, or electromagnetic waves that transmit current to recharge batteries. Although not very efficient, this technology lives up to its reputation in terms of wirelessly charging devices like mobile phones.

Another form of wireless charging or current transfer was invented by a company called WiTricity, which managed to overcome the limitations of inductive charging by making electricity available over greater, wire-free distances. Both Intel and Toyota have showed keen interest in this technology and it hence proves its technical prowess over existing technologies.

What Motorola will come up with in this regard still remains a big mystery but it will soon be unveiled at the Motorola press conference during CES.

It will have 3.2 Honeycomb operating system, which we hope will be replaced with Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The Excite will have 64 GB of along with an expandable memory of up to 32 GB via card.
