ZTE Optimus Barcelona smartphone in works

ZTE Optimus Barcelona is likely to launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread in coming months.

Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, ZTE seems to be readying another smartphone in addition to the eight new smartphones which it showcased at the Mobile World Congress last week in Barcelona, Spain.
Oddly named as Optimus Barcelona, the handset has just received WiFi and Bluetooth certification. While the details about the ZTE Optimus Barcelona are scarce, ZTE Portugal’s official Facebook account is already ready for it.

Amongst the bunch of devices announced, hardly any device appears similar to the ZTE Optimus Barcelona. From the Bluetooth certification page, ZTE has assigned model name – San Francisco II for this model and might be branded as Optimus Barcelona in the Europe region.
The ZTE Optimus Barcelona handset will feature Bluetooth 2.1+EDR module. Other details reveal that this smartphone will be a dual-mode handset to support and 2G networks with a promise to offer seamless handovers.
The WiFi certification file reveals that the Optimus Barcelona will support 2.4 GHz WiFi 802.11 (b/g/n). This smartphone will launch with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread running on the top of it.
At first, the device does seem like ZTE Era but it infact is not because the Era will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pre-loaded. Even ZTE Mimosa X is expected to arrive with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The image in the Bluetooth certification clearly shows that it doesn’t have Android 4.0 and also the Handset Detection page lists Optimus Barcelona with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread build.
From the looks and specifications, this ZTE handset is likely to be targeted at the mid-range market in Europe. The ZTE Optimus Barcelona will feature Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi support. We expect this smartphone to launch in coming 3-6 weeks and there is no confirmation on whether it will be launched in India.
