Cab service provider, Uber has announced a series of new features in the driver’s app. These new features aims at predicting, preventing and reducing the number of crashes on the road. With these features, Uber claims that it aims to help the drivers make better decisions and for this the company is providing more options. These new features will first rolled out in Bangalore over the next few weeks and will soon make way to other cities as well.
Going in to the detail, the App will now provide drivers with daily reports about how their driving patterns compare to other drivers in their city and some tips and suggestion to improve on it. Another useful feature will alert the driver of the speed of the vehicle. Messages and Prompts like importance of taking rest and breaks and even a message saying ‘mounting their phone on the dashboard is safer than holding the phone in their hands’ will also be added soon.
Announcing the launch, Dorothy Chou, Head of Safety for Public Policy, Uber, said, “We believe that technologies like Uber provide an incredible opportunity to improve road safety in new and innovative ways-before, during and after every ride. While alcohol is the leading cause of traffic crashes, there are other behaviors that can put people at risk, including distracted and unsafe driving. Today we are announcing new features in the driver app to help reduce these risks going forward.”
