In the coming weeks, ten smartphones are expected to be launched in India by handset majors like Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, Nokia and Spice.
Samsung, Nokia, Sony and LG are expected to launch two phones each while Spice and HTC may launch one phone each in the price bracket of Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000.

Here is a list of the phones that are expected to be available for Indian mobile users in next 2-3 weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S III

Galaxy S III has a distinct set of features such as voice control and eye tracking. There are two variants of the phone out of which the model which carries a quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos 4 mobile will be launched in India while the other variant which has dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with is for the USA market.

The Samsung Galaxy S III features a 4.8-inch Super that has PenTile pixel arrangement (two subpixels per pixel) and has about 306 pixels per inch pixel density. By default, this display supports 1280×720 pixel resolution.

Measuring just 8.6 mm thick, the Galaxy S III is about 0.35 mm slimmer than the HTC One X but weighs 133 grams with battery included.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance

Samsung Galaxy S Advance is the updated version of the popular Galaxy S smartphone. It comes with a WVGA (854×480) display and a large 4 inch curved glass screen. It gets a bump in performance through the new 1 GHz dual core processor and is based on the 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

Samsung has also upped the download speed to up to 14.4 Mbps, and has provided 3.0 in Galaxy S Advance for faster file transfer. Its WiFi Direct feature connects users to other devices through WiFi access points for easy content sharing. There is a 5 camera also.

LG Optimus L7

LG had unveiled its new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich running smartphone Optimus L7 at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The Optimus L7 smartphone comes with L-Style which would help users make better use of its display, navigation and the keyboard.

The LG Optimus L7 has a 4.3-inch display that supports WVGA (480×800) pixel and comes with an 8-megapixel camera with LED Flash at the back. There will be a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video chat and clicking self-images also.

In its mere 8.7 mm slim body, the LG Optimus will house a single-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor along with an Adreno 200 graphics chip. LG has provided 1 and offered 4 GB onboard storage out of which only 2.8 GB is user accessible.

LG Optimus 3D Max

The LG Optimus 3D Max smartphone will come with a dual-core 1.2 GHz mobile processor. It will features the same glasses-free 3D display as its predecessor – Optimus 3D. It will have a 4.3-inch screen supporting 480×800 pixel resolution.

It is not surprising that the smartphone will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread as LG has already announced its plan to release Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second and third quarter of this year.

The Optimus 3D Max has dual five megapixel camera configuration to record 3D videos. Under the hood, the phone accommodates a 1.2 GHz mobile processor and 1 GB RAM to supplement it. The Optimus 3D Max, which has 16 GB of internal storage, also comes with expandable storage slot.

This will be LG’s second attempt to create a better glasses-free 3D smartphone. The company has been working on the 2D to 3D conversion software to make the 2D content enjoyable on the 3D display. Sadly, there are not enough 3D content in the market that can be enjoyed on this phone.

Nokia 808 Pureview

Nokia PureView 808 smartphone features a single-core 1.3 GHz mobile processor with 512 MB RAM. Nokia has added a big 41 megapixel Carl Zeiss image sensor with Xenon flash. Bearing the f/2.8 aperture, the 41 megapixel camera promises 7728×5354 resolution images in 16:9 formats.

With the new PureView Pro imaging technology, the company has managed to use a technique of over-sampling for crystal-clear and noise-less 5 megapixel images. The imaging capability is further aided by the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) which uses a special algorithm which combines seven different pixels in to a one better pixel. The camera also supports up to 4x without compromising on the quality. It also allows capturing full 1080p HD videos at 30 frames per second with up to 3x Zoom while for the 720p HD resolution, one can go up to 6x zoom.

Nokia 610

Nokia’s Lumia 610 will be based on Windows Phone Tango operating system, and is expected to be an affordable smartphone. However, the phone will not have low end hardware specifications as the Windows Phone Tango based Lumia 610 will come with an 800 processor, 256 MB RAM and 8 GB of onboard memory. Along with that the device will also feature a 5 megapixel camera and MMS capabilities.

Besides, the Lumia 610 will come preloaded with Nokia apps like Nokia Music, Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, and will be available in four colours – White, Black, Magenta and Cyan.

Sony Xperai Sola

Sony Xperia Sola is the first ever Android smartphone from Sony’s stable to feature a floating touch display. The floating touch display technology allows users to scroll through web pages on the device without having the need to actually touch the display. Users can simply hover their finger close to the display and the device recognises the gestures and translates it into action.

Although Sony is yet to officially announce the availability of the Xperia Sola but the device has already started appearing on online stores like Infibeam who are also taking prebooking orders for the smartphone. The retail price of the Xperia Sola is Rs 22,999 but Infibeam is offering discounts worth Rs 3,000 thus making it available for Rs 19,999.

Sony Xperia P

The Xperia P is the smaller cousin of the Sony Xperia S that was launched in the Indian market in the month of April. The Sony Xperia P is based on Google’s Android operating system and has a 4-inch scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels. The phone comes powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The device comes preinstalled with Android 2.3 but Sony has plans to upgrade the device to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich later.

The Sony Xperia P has an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash and a VGA camera in the front to aid video calling and conferencing. The Xperia P comes with an internal storage of 16 GB out of which 13 GB worth of storage will be available for the user to store his data.

Online retailer, Infibeam has started taking prebooking orders for the Sony Xperia P which is expected to make its debut in India on May 26. Along with the smartphone, which is priced at Rs 25,500, Infibeam is also offering a free Plantronics Bluetooth headset.

Spice Android 4.0

Spice Mobile is planning to launch Android Ice Cream Sandwich based phones soon, a person close to the development told ‘The Mobile Indian’.

Though no specifications or pricing of these phones have been disclosed till now, according to our source Spice will launch around five devices majority of which will be based on Android 4.0 operating system.
