These Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets may receive Android Oreo

The list is based on a deep dive into framework files of the leaked Android Oreo beta update for the Galaxy Note 8.

Google announced the 8.0 Oreo update in August last year and since then many smartphone manufacturers are gearing up to provide the latest update to its smartphones. While a number of smartphone companies have rolled out the latest update, companies like Samsung seems to be far behind. However, it seems that the company is planning to roll out Android Oreo update and a list of smartphones and tablets that might receive the latest update have emerged online.

Folks at XDA Developers have created a list of Samsung smartphones and tablet that might get the Android Oreo update. The list is based on a deep dive into framework files of the leaked Android Oreo beta update for the Galaxy Note 8.

They found a list of XML files that appear to describe the hardware of certain Samsung devices. However, the presence of XML files does not give a solid proof on whether the company will roll out Android Oreo update to the below-mentioned smartphones. Anyhow, here is the list of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablet that would presumably be updated to Android Oreo in the future:

Samsung Galaxy smartphones that will get Android Oreo update:

  • Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 (a5y17)
  • Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 (a7y17)
  • Samsung Galaxy A8 2016 SM-A810 (a8xe)

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 (gts3)

The report further highlights that the following devices are not mentioned in the list, but will eventually get the Android Oreo update as well as the devices have been released within the past two years. The list includes Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro, Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro, Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. Aside from smartphones, Samsung could also release the Oreo update to a range of its tablets including:

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T355 (gt58lte)
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T380/T385 2017 (gta2s)
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 SM-T580 (gtaxl)
