Telenor is reportedly planning to roll out its LTE services in six circles. The operator has reportedly already started its LTE services in Varanasi.
PTI has reported that the operator is planning to launch its 4G services in all its six circles by the end of this financial year.
Telenor currently provides services in UP (West), UP (East), Bihar (including Jharkhand), Andhra Pradesh (including Telangana), Maharashtra and Gujarat. It also has spectrum for Assam but is yet to start its services.
Telenor had 7.24 lakh mobile subscribers at the end of January, as per TRAI data.
Meanwhile, ET has claimed that Telenor is looking to exit the Indian market altogether but has not find any buyer so far.
“The company, which has spectrum in seven circles but operates in just six of India’s 22 zones with airwaves only in 1800 MHz band, is said to be looking for a valuation between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion (Rs 11,000-12,000 crore),” ET said quoting sources.
Telenor, as per ET, has invested $3 billion since 2008-09 but after losing all its licenses in 2012, it hasn’t recovered. With limited airwaves, it may not survive for long, especially after the entry of Reliance Jio.
