Sony Xperia P to be launched next week

Sony Xperia P will be launched in the fourth week of this month and it will be available for around Rs 25,000

Sony India is gearing up to launch the latest Xperia smartphone, Sony Xperia P, by next week in the country.

Talking to The Mobile Indian, sources familiar with the development said, “Sony Xperia P will be launched in the fourth week of May (2012) and it will be available for around Rs 25,000.”

The Sony Xperia P based on Google’s 2.3 operating system and has a 4-inch scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 960×540 pixels. The phone comes powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor.

On the camera front it has an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash. The Xperia P has internal storage of 16 GB.

Besides that Sony Xperia Sola, which is the first ever Android smartphone from Sony’s stable to feature a floating touch display, is expected to be launched during the same time. The floating touch display technology allows users to scroll through web pages on the device without having the need to actually touch the display. Users just need to hover their fingers close to the display and the device would recognise the gesture and translate it into action.

Although Sony is yet to officially announce the availability of the Xperia Sola but the device has already started appearing on online stores like Infibeam who are also taking prebooking orders for the smartphone. The retail price of the Xperia Sola is Rs 22,999 but Infibeam is offering discounts worth Rs 3,000 thus making it available for Rs 19,999.

The Sony Xperia Sola features a dual core 1 GHz processor and will have a 3.7 inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels powered by Sony’s Bravia Engine technology for better display. The Xperia device feature 3G, WiFi, and NFC connectivity options and is DLNA certified as well. There is a 5 megapixel camera at the back of the smartphone that comes with 720p video recording capability but it misses out on a front camera so video calling is not possible on this device.

The device will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread preinstalled on it but the company has plans to upgrade it to Android Ice Cream Sandwich along with other Xperia devices like the Xperia S and Xperia U.
