Sony releases Android 4.0 beta ROM for Xperia devices

Sony Mobile has announced Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Beta ROM for three Xperia devices - Arc S, Neo V and Ray.

Sony Mobile has announced the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for select Xperia 2011 family smartphones. The new Android 4.0 ICS beta ROM is available for the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray smartphones running 4.0.2.A.0.42 build. Do note that this beta build is available only for advanced developers.

Sony Xperia 2011 smartphones are expected to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update by the end of first quarter. Meanwhile, the currently issued Android 4.0 ICS beta ROM contains updated user interface, new lock screen, face unlock, connectivity, updated email client, and a quick dial interface.

This update is meant for advanced developers who needs to unlock the boot loader of the respective device at the Sony Mobile’s Bootloader Unlocking service page. Of course, unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty. After that users need to download the respective beta build for the handset model. Beware of the fact that downloading and flashing wrong file may render you phone totally unusable.

Since the Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo have different partition layouts, the new Android 4.0 ICS beta ROM is not meant to be installed on them. Do note that this is beta update and does not guarantee normal functionality.

Also this update does not mean that the Xperia owners can expect to receive the Android 4.0 ICS update by late March.
