Samsung has formally unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 phablet at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2013 event in Berlin, Germany. This phablet will be offered in two different models and each will vary in select markets. Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note 3 in more than 140 countries around the world after 25 September.
Samsung has styled the Galaxy Note 3 with soft and textured back that can be changed. The metallic bezel at the side has the serration pattern to provide good grip and elegant look. The Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED Display compared to the Galaxy Note II’s 5.5-inch Full HD Super Amoled display. Samsung has also dropped the usage of Roman numerals in the model name and calling the new phablet Galaxy Note 3 instead of Galaxy Note III.
For select markets, the Galaxy Note 3 will feature a quad-core 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor with Adreno 330 graphics chip and support for 4G LTE networks for faster data connectivity. Meanwhile other markets like India will get the 3G network supporting octa-core 1.9 GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor loaded Galaxy Note 3. This model’s processor has four Cortex-A15 processing cores clocked at 1.9 GHz to take care of heavy processing part. The other four Cortex-A7 cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to take care of the operating system and user interface.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 packs 3 GB RAM and will be offered in 32 GB or 64 GB storage options. It will also feature a memory card slot to support up to 64 GB micro SD card. Samsung has layered the Nature UX over the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to run smoothly over the powerful hardware.
At the back of it lies a stereo speaker and the 13 Megapixel BSI sensor clad camera with auto focus and LED Flash. This camera sensor possesses zero shutter lag. The camera is capable of recording ultra-high definition videos at 30 frames per second and smooth motion full HD videos at 60 frames per second. Also, users can experiment with the slow motion HD videos at 120 frames per second. Undoubtedly the users will have a ball with the camera and checking out videos on the full HD display. The camera also supports variety of functions such as HDR, Animated photo, Drama Shot, Sound & Shot, Panorama, Surround Shot and so on.
Samsung has introduced the enhanced S Pen experience with myriad features and functionality integration. For instance, when the S Pen is pulled out from the phone, the Air Command automatically shows up. Alternatively, that same menu can be brought up by simple hover gesture anywhere on the display using the S Pen. Samsung has added more functionalities to its existing software. It has a Screen Write feature as well that allows taking screenshot anywhere in the system and write on top of it mimics the functionality already offered by LG Optimus 3 UI.
New Action Memo allows the user to quickly scribble notes and convert that into a formatted content. Scrapbook basically allows collating information from the phone as well as the web for organized profile. New Pen Window enables writing, sketching, opening a small application video for multi-tasking. New S Note syncs with Samsung Account and also Evernote to make the digital notes accessible anywhere, on any device. Easy Clip enables quick drawing and then converts it into precisely cropped image.
Samsung also introduced My Magazine, yet another web and social content reader that brings personalised reading experience to the users. Samsung KNOX is the new security feature that ensures the user to run security-sensitive applications and data in a secured container environment.
Samsung has offered the Galaxy Note 3 with WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) for fast data connection and downloads. It also features the Near Field Communication Chip, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, IR LED blaster, MHL 2.0 and GPS with GLONASS support. Variety of Sensors such as Gesture, Accelerometer, Geo-magnetic, Gyroscope, RGB, Proximity, Barometer, Temperature & Humidity and Hall Sensor are also loaded on this phablet.
The Galaxy Note 3 is 8.3 mm thick and weighs 168 grams including the Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery. As of now, Samsung has not announced the price of the Galaxy Note 3.
