RIM rolls out upgrade for BlackBerry 9900 in India

BlackBerry OS 7.1 brings WiFi hotspot functionality along with BBM improvements and other software enhancements.

Research In Motion, the makers of the BlackBerry range of smartphones, has finally announced the roll out of the 7.1 upgrade for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphones. The upgrade which is an increment to the OS 7 on BlackBerry Bold 9900 brings along a host of software improvements along with the much awaited WiFi hotspot functionality with which users can connect up to five different devices for internet sharing.

Besides, the update also fixes multiple software bugs and issues in the smartphone. With this, the BlackBerry Messenger of BlackBerry Bold 9900 has also been upgraded to version 7.1 which will deliver a more personalised experience including animated avatars and new colour chat bubbles along with connected applications that were announced by RIM just about a couple of weeks back.

The update has been rolled out for free devices as of now and for operator locked devices, it is expected to be rolled out soon in collaboration with the respective operator. The update has also been rolled out in several other countries outside India as well.

Users need to upgrade their device using the BlackBerry desktop software and there is no provision for an over the air upgrade to the BlackBerry 7.1 for Bold 9900. Users can locate the update on the BlackBerry India support page or can also follow this link for easier access.
