Reliance LYF Wind 6 vs Samsung Z2

Interestingly both of them comes with Reliance's famous Jio Preview.

Previously, we have compared a lot budget smartphones which were priced around Rs 8,000 price mark. With Samsung launching the Z2 in India today, we have again a tough battle going on between the Z2 and the LYF Wind 6. Interestingly both of them come with Reliance’s famous Jio Preview offer through which you get 90 days unlimited and Calling. So no point of distinction there.

While the Wind 6 is available for Rs 4,999, the new Samsung Z2 is launched at Rs 4,590 and will available via Paytm and offline stores from August 29. Meanwhile, let’s compare the two devices on the basis of on paper specifications and see which one comes out as a winner.

Display and Design

Starting with the design, you cannot expect much at this price. Especially with the latest trend of all metallic smartphones, it is nowhere to be seen here. Both the phones come with a polycarbonate design but looks pretty decent for the money you have to pay for them. Samsung Z2 also comes with texturized back for grip and control.

The screen size is where these phones differ. The new Samsung Z2 comes with a 4 inch display with 800×480 pixel resolution. Whereas, the LYF Wind 6 comes with a 5 inch IPS screen with FWVGA (480 x 854 pixel) resolution. No doubt, the Wind 6 has a bigger display but you will get better on the Samsung Z2.

Processor

Both the device being priced under Rs 5,000 are relatively similar in terms of processor. The Z2 is powered by a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core processor (its not clear the maker of the processor) and 1 RAM. On the other hand, the Wind 6 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-Core 1.1 GHz processor with Adreno 304 and 1 GB RAM. We can’t really compare the performance till we get to know the actual processor and hands on experience with the device. Being presumptive, the performance should be just fine for the daily use. Don’t get your hopes up in the gaming and hard-core multi-tasking department.

Storage and Memory

Both the phones come with an 8GB internal storage which is expandable via card. While in Wind 6 you can only expand it up to 32 GB, on the new Samsung Z2 you can expand the storage up to 128GB. That’s a plus right there for the Samsung phone. As mentioned previously both the devices come with 1 GB of RAM.

Camera

The camera is considered to be the most important aspect of a smartphone these days but these phones are obviously not camera-centric. Still, the Wind 6 sports a 5 both front and back camera with the front camera being only a fixed focus shooter. The rear camera is capable of recording 720p video at 30fps and comes with an flash. The Samsung Z2 has the same 5 megapixel rear camera but has a VGA front camera. Well, that’s a bummer. On paper, the Wind 6 seems to be the better camera smatphone.

Battery, OS and Connectivity

Before the battery, let’s jump straight to the operating system they are running on. The Samsung Z2 doesn’t run on rather it comes with Samsung’s own Tizen OS with multiple theme integration. Whereas, the Wind 6 runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which is more common. This makes the decision a lot simpler. If you want Android, Wind 6 is the option otherwise you can consider the Samsung Z2.

Coming to the battery, the Samsung Z2 comes with a 1500 battery and the Wind 6 is backed by a 2250 mAh battery. The battery performance in our opinion will be slightly better on the Wind 6 because it has a larger battery but also a larger display.

For Connectivity, both the phones have WiFi, Bluetooth, connectivity options. Also, both are 4G enabled devices. Samsung Z2 comes with OTG support as well. Good Work! Samsung.

Wrapping Up

Well Samsung’s Z2 might be a little cheaper than the Wind 6 but lack of Android OS certainly will not favour the South Korean tech giant. However, we really need to test the Tizen OS in order to actually compare it with other OS like Android. Samsung claims it to be clutter free and intuitive, we will have to wait and see before we get the actual hands on experience. As of now and on paper, the LYF Wind 6 seems to be the winner by a little margin due to its bigger battery and a better front camera.
