Reliance JioPhone second phase of booking begins, but there’s a catch!

The company has confirmed that it will be sending out SMS to only those who have earlier shown interest in buying the phone.

Reliance has started the second phase of booking for JioPhone in India. Reliance Retail will now start the process of booking the 4G-enabled feature phone, however, this time the booking process will be not open for all.

The company has confirmed that it will be sending out to only those who have earlier shown interest in buying the phone. About 10 million people had shown interest in JioPhone in July and the message will be sent to all of them. “A link will be sent to people who are again showing interest to make payment of Rs 500 on the authorised channel. Once they make payment, they will be informed about the date when JioPhone will be delivered to them,” a Reliance Jio channel partner told PTI.

This time Reliance JioPhone will face a tough competition with other manufacturers. Bharti Airtel has already launched its new lineup of budget-friendly smartphones with Karbonn A40 Indian, Karbonn A1 Indian, Karbonn A41 Power and Celkon Smart which is available at an effective price of below Rs 1,500.

Vodafone recently partnered with Micromax to launch a new affordable 4G-enabled smartphone known as Bharat 2 Ultra. The smartphone with Vodafone SuperNet 4G connection will be available at an effective price of Rs 999. Similarly, Idea Cellular is also planning to launch a series of affordable smartphones around Rs 1,500 or less.

On July 21, Reliance unveiled the JioPhone feature phone for the Indian consumers. The 4G-enabled feature phone is said to cost you Rs Zero. However, one has to pay Rs 1,500 as a security deposit, which will be 100 percent refundable after three years. The company is providing free voice calls, unlimited data and Jio apps for Rs 153 per month with Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plans to JioPhone customers. Further, there two sachets, one with Rs 24 for two days and Rs 54 plan for a week. Users will enjoy the same benefits as the monthly recharge of Rs 153.
